San Francisco-based hospitals have treated over 160 survivors of the devastating Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crash. Although some passengers were fortunate enough to suffer only minor bruises, many endured severe head injuries and spinal cord damage.
According to Samir Mehta, MD, “spinal cord injuries can be some of the most serious injuries in a crash such as this.”
The severe impact these individuals experienced can lead to the spine compressing and the small bones within the spine (vertebrae) bursting and leading to injured nerves.
